1. Pip went to the churchyard to visit his parents' tombstones. The man, a convict, Pip met at the churchyard wanted a file and "wittles" because the man wanted to rid of the chains surrounding his legs.
2. I think that Pip referred to Joe Gargery as "Hercules in strength, and also in weakness" because Pip wanted to mention that just because Hercules was strong and so was Joe, they must have a weakness that can overpower their abilities.
3. It was difficult for Pip to carry out the convict's wishes because Mrs. Joe Gargery, his sister, gave tons of work for Pip to do, so there was no time to obey the convict's wishes.
4. The cliffhanger at the end of Chapter 4 is when a soldier held out a pair of handcuffs, so the reader is anxious to find out what's Pip's future.
5. Pip's convict showed Pip that he didn't blame him for the search party and his capture by taking the blame and admitted he stole the items.

1) Pip was at the churchyard because his parents, and his five bothers had died. The man was an escape convict, and he wanted a file and “whittles” because he wanted to get off the chains that were on his legs.

2) Pip referred to his brother-in-law as “Hercules in strength, and also in weakness” because Joe Gargery is a very strong man, but his personality is very gentle and easy going.

3) It was difficult for Pip to carry out the convicts wishes because Pip’s sister, Mrs. Joe was always making him work and never giving him time to give the escape convict what he wanted.

4) The cliffhanger at the end of chapter four is that a soldier busts into their house and says “Here you are, look sharp ,come on!” The cliffhanger is actually, because the handcuffs are pointed at Pip, and whoever is reading the book ants to find out what happened to him.

5) Pip’s convict showed Pip that he didn’t blame him for the search party and his capture by saying that he took the file and “whittles”, and taking the blame for Pip.
