great expectations 1

In 1819, the British Parliament passed an act which prevented children under nine years of age from legally being employed and required that no child work more than
sixteen hours a day. In 1833, Parliament passed Lord Althorp's Factory Act, which further limited the number of hours a child could work per week and created a system of factory inspection. Find out about the harsh child-labor conditions of the nineteenth century which made the institution of such acts necessary. What social influences helped to exploit child labor for so long? When were child-labor laws passed in the United States? What did those laws provide?

During the 19th century, many children of all ages, most very young, were under strict and severe working circumstances. They were chosen as the primary source of child labor because they get paid very little for all the long hours. The conditions in factories were cold and harsh. Many children often got very sick. Karl Marx included the problems involving child labor in his manuscript called the "Communist Manifesto." This helped raise awareness in parts of the world, causing boycotts of goods produced by children. One law passed in the United States was in 1904, called the National Child Labor Committee. This organization passed a law abolishing child labor, but was unsuccessful. Then, when the Great Depression struck, adults had to find jobs as well. This ruled out the children's need to work.

Child labor laws were made because children were getting hurt in factories and there were also health problems. They were missing fingers and hands. Child labor existed for so long because they had low pay and they took up less space. Poor families relied on their children to work. Many child labor laws were passed before. One example, is in 1938 when Franklin D. Roosevelt passed a law that placed limits on many forms on child labor. Laws today prevent all children under 14 from working.

Many social influences helped to cary on child labor. Children were technically being used as slaves serving under very harsh and brutal conditions. Many were harmed during their work in factories and sweatshops. Some children were forced to work t help provide for their family. A person who help abolish child labor laws was Karl Marx he stated "Abolition of children's factory labour in its present form". In 1938 Franklin D Roosevelt passed and signed the fair labor standards act which placed limits of child labor.

during the 19th century, most people work in the factory, and some of them are same age or younger than us.they work in the harsh condition, long working hour, and low pay, that is the child labor. child labor can be quite dangerous such when child work in the clothing factory.they usually work in a crowded, unsafe and fatal condition.child labor start in the beginning of the industrial revolution,a period start in late 1700s to late 1800s, when people start mass production, that mean they need worker and factory,a lot of children work in the factory or mill, in some other country, children work mine, agriculture, and business of their parents. during the time period, there were a lot of boycott against child labor, karl marx, the most influencial socialist think in the 1900s.he determined the issue of child labor and the problem in his manuscript called"Communist Manifesto" it was published in February 21, 1848, it talk about the issue of social classes. the national child labor comittee, organization that work for the abolition of all child labor, which only manage one law, but been strucked down by congress two year later for violating the children's right.but during the Great depression, adults had became so desparate that they have to work the same wage as childs.that end the child labor.after then, in 1938, franklin D.Roosevelt sign the fair labor standard act, to place the limit on many form of child labor throughout the U.S.

Harsh Child- Labor Conditions:
Windows weren’t allowed to be opened- so they got disease from breathing the same air
12 hour work days with no break
clothing got caught in machinery
many of them died like that and by getting caught on other things, or sewing their fingers on accident
weren’t given any lee-way
children were working from the ages of even younger than 7
the children usually weren’t paid even though they worked for such long periods of time

Social influences helped to exploit child labor for so long
sometimes, the owners of the factories paid people not to tell anyone
adults weren’t allowed in the building
sometimes, children were threatened if they told about the factories
most children would just work to keep their families alive, because even at that young age, some children understood, even though they usually weren’t paid

When were child labor laws passed in the U.S?
Child labor laws were passed in the year 1897

What do those laws provide?
Those laws provide:
that’s they get treated fairly
that they get paid
that they work a normal number of hours
that they are treated better
